Britain got involved because the signed a tready with Belgium to stay out the war and stay neutral but Gremany acted them anyways. Britain went to war. German military decided that submairne warfare was the best gamble to british supplies before american troops a arrived in large numbers. The united states navy sent a battleship group to Scapa to join the british grand Fleet. This was a 40 million casulty war. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand has been claimed by many to be the grand start of this full scale bloody world war. To my knowledge, as many as 16 different countries were involved in this world wide massacre.

We declared war on Germany today. I must say, i never thought it would ever come down to this. Why can't peace just be a reality in this cruel world. Being a nurse, I am going to need alot of help if this war becomes as brutal as i think it will.

ASSASSINATION OF ARCHDUKE FRANZ FERDINAND

History_Archduke_Franz_Ferdinand.jpg Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-hungary.

Two bullets. The death of two people. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of austria-hungary, heir to the throne of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and his wife, sophie, was all it took for everybody to turn on one another, causing the beginning of world war one. The world would never be the same.

Alot of violence and accusations started when the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-hungary. This uncalled for act of murder took place in 1914. Archduke was beginning to be seen as a threat to the south slavic people. Serbian, Gavrilo Princip from bosnia-herzegovina, a youthful age of 19, was the one that so willingly shot two bullets from his weapon that made contact with Archduke. The reason Archduke was seen as a threat to the southern people of slavic was simple. Austria-hungary had control over bosnia-herzegovina.

The plot of Franz Ferdinand's death was thought to be perfectly planned out and quite simple. The first failed attempt of his assassination proved otherwise. One of the seven assassins had first tried throwing a bomb at the Archduke's vehicle passing by only to see the bomb bounce off the vehicle and explode nearby, which alerted the Archduke and his wife and they escaped from the vehicle in danger. A shot to the Archduke and his wife is what, soon after the failed bombing, brought them to their death. Freeing the south slavic people of bosnia-herzegovina was Gavrilo's vision. He got more than what he had bargained for. This simple act of so-called heroism instead brought together the beginning of WW1.

There are so many fatalities, injured people and people that will not make it. Today, they brought an injured soldier to me. His legs had been blown off by a grenade. I feel so bad. i can help with the pain only a little bit. That is all i can do for him. I am praying to God tonight that this war ends soon.

BRITAIN BATTLE PLAN

I am just a nurse, but in my eyes, i believe we can win this war with certain techniques and battle tactics that we can use to our advantage. Britain currently has 840,000 men to deploy if needed. The way our country sits with sea on all four sides of us is a good defensive advantage because we only have to worry about sea attacks. All sides of our country are surrounded by sea, leaving surprise attacks from ground troops of any kind virtually impossible. If Ireland decides to attack us for whatever reason, we will infiltrate them from the northern part of Ireland, leaving leaving them unable to attack from the north port. The only other spot they would most likely send troops on ship from would be the southern point of Ireland closest to Britain. We should keep tanks and 10,000 troops on standby at Stranraor, Holyhead and Fishguard for attempted attacks from Ireland.

Strong defenses against our eastern coast should be scattered out from north to south on the coast of our great Britain to withstand attacks by sea. With what is left, our whole military should be divided into three sections to channel through Netherlands, Belgium and from the north to northeast of France to strick the southern part of Germany by surprise. Germany should be the first target of strike. What nobody but our military knows is that we have a secret weapon of protection and destruction. A new tank of mass power is underway. each platoon and wave of our british forces shall carry a vickers machine gun. We can win this war with courage and fearlessness at heart.

Today, a soldier died in my arms. I must have held his body and cried for hours it seems like. I don't know how to handle all of this. I didn't know what i was getting myself into. Just the moaning sounds of all the injured in my care from pain and agony just make me want to wish all the Germans to hell right now. This war is getting everybody nowhere. I haven't slept in days. Maybe i will get some sleep tonight knowing that tomorrow will not be worse, but it will not be better. It will be exactly the same...

BRITISH PROPAGANDA

00001832.jpg
The goal or and purpose of this propaganda is to get as many people together as the British army could to build an unstoppable force to save Britain from destruction. The technique used in this particular poster is actually quite interesting and very effective in most cases. What the poster is trying to say in more simpler terms is that it is better to fight the enemy here or there than it is to stay and hide. It's better to protect what you're living for than to hide behind what you're living for. Protect your country. Don't hide behind it.

RUSSIA AND USA AFFECTS BRITAIN'S CHANCE OF WINNING

I am excited that Russia is leaving. I have my own reasons50004british-flag-posters.jpg for feeling this way. Sever the wound before it gets worse is what they say. Russia's casulties were getting greater by the day. They need to sit this one out. Russia's exit on this war may have an advantage as far as us winning goes. With them out of the picture, Germany might, in theory, focus more of their fire power onto the USA and France, leaving them more vunerable to attacks from our great Britain. With the USA entering the war, all of us as a whole will have a much better chance winning this great war against germany. USA is ready. They have the tools, equiptment, the man power and the skill. They will help a great deal. As long as there is going to be no back stabbing involved, I have faith in us winning this war.

I've been so busy lately, it feels like I don't even have time to write in my journal anymore. Today was the first day in a long time that I have had less than 20 wounded people come to me in need of care. Some times I just wish i wasn't even here. On the other hand, I think to myself that if I wasn't here, then I wouldn't be helping anybody but myself. I would be hiding like a child knowing that there are thousands of people out there needing my help. I suppose this is what keeps me here. This is what keeps me going.

BRITAIN'S REACTION TO THE TERMS OF THE TREATY OF VERSAILLES

The terms of the treat of versailles had quite the impact on our country. The reaction is quite noticable. Germany is calling the treaty morally invalid, therefore, incouraging them to only feel more rebellious towards everybody. Although this treaty is a treaty of peace, France is not seeing it like that. They believe they should still pay to the fullest extent. I think it is a little harsh on the Germans. We are not people of evil or war. We want what everybody else has yurned for for a long time. Germany is going to rise above all of us and totally reject the treat of versailles. We are already hurt enough. Our numbers are low and we are weak all around. At first, i never saw Germany as a real threat to us after the treaty of versailles, but now, looking at their reactions to this treaty, i beg to differ. I hate to admit it, but the way this treaty is causing Germany to react is...scaring me.

I just got word that the war officially ended yesterday. I am so excited, yet so depressed. It seems like this four year long war has caused nothing but death and pain for the families with losses all around Britain. All around everywhere. Atleast now, everybody has some time to grieve and heal mentally and physically. I can't help but wonder just how long this ending of the war will last...

We should all be afraid of going to war with Germany, but if you really think about it, who should be that afraid of a bunch of kids with sticks that can't count to ten?

Germany Germany, we're so scared, you have got us shaking in our underwear!!!

Oh Germany, where's the fight? We've been waiting up all night. If you plan on attacking us, be prepared to get kicked into the dust. There's something you should know about Britain. It's not like going to war with a little kitten. As one, we're a ferocious powerful lion. So if you're on your way, be prepared to do a little dy'n!!!

Just another site with more links and pictures to look at pertaining to world war 1. Not as good as the first two sites, but still, definitely worth looking at.

The fight against Germany was long into time;
to end this war I would have given my last dime.
The screams, the broken bones, the deaths
of our loved ones makes me sad at heart;
it shouldn't have taken all of this
to make a brand new fresh start.
If thousands of casualties is what it takes
for the war to end,
leave me out of it, for a postcard i will send.
It shall say "To the ones that want this war,
what the hell are you fighting for?
I'm sitting under a maple tree right now
drinking my iced tea,
having a merry time. My husband and kids
are having fun along with me.
There doesn't need to be a war.
There doesn't need to be any deaths.
Can't you see? There's already been enough bloodshed."
I've had enough of this tyranny and hate.
I'm getting tired of waking up to the same thing every day.
Broken bones, lost limbs, screams of pain and sorrow.
If it were possible, my want for peace, you all could borrow.
This talk about there was to be a war to be peace is nonsense.
I don't buy it for one minute, so don't try to sell.
I would much rather die and go to hell.

CHRISTMAS DURING THE WAR
Very little shots from either side were fired during Christmas on the battle field. A few carols being sung could even be heard on from one side of the battle field to the other. One weird thing though...after seeing lights sprung all around the German trenches, a couple of Germans came over to the British soldiers and wished them a merry Christmas!!! A few of our soldiers even went over to the German side and wished them a merry Christmas. On any other day of the war, every soldier would have to keep their head down in fear of getting shot. On Christmas now, soldiers from both sides are running around on the battle field having a good ole time. Both sides even exchanged gifts. A deal was made that the day after Christmas, if no shot was fired by us, no shot would be fired by the Germans. This is definitely a Christmas to remember.
A very merry British Christmas

THE RETURN HOME
The feelings I have now from the return home from the war feel that they should be so simple to explain, yet, there is really no other world to describe it other than...peace. I feel a great weight has just been lifted from my shoulders and I thank God for this. My prayers have been answered and the bloodshed of many men has been put to an end. The trip to Hell and back is finally over. Four long years of the same torcher every day. My own bed, my own sink, my own living room, my own HOME. Everything now feels like Heaven to me. I cannot say I am not proud of myself being in the war. That would be a lie. Even though I strongly disagree with any war, I am proud of myself because I was there when our brave soldiers needed help the most.

I can't vouch for every soldier here in Britain because I do not like to interfere in others business, but from what I see right now, atleast I am welcomed back home with open arms. My home town has strong beliefs just like me. The war was unnessisary, but what needed to be done simply needed to be done. I only hope this graceful welcoming back lasts and the yurn for peace and happiness continues atleast throuout the rest of my life. I missed my husband and my kids so much. We are now together as a blessed happy family again. How grown my children are now. I regret missing them grow these four years, but what I was doing was for a good cause. I believe they understand that. If not, then one day they will when they get to be my age.
The first day I came back home, there were banners and signs expressing every ones excitement for our return. The front of my home was decorated in lights formed together that said "WELCOME HOME MOM!". Thank you Lord, for now I am home and safe and my family is reunited. And thank you for keeping all the surviving soldiers and other nurses alive and well.
